Day 20: Precious Feet

Photo by Dr. Russel Sacco, 1970
"It all started back in 1970 in pathologist Dr. Russell Sacco’s lab.  As a photographer and father of four, he envisioned just how powerful the story a picture of the tiny feet of unborn babies would tell for the pro-life movement.  On January 22, 1974, in San Diego, California, preparing for the March for Life on the first anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, a full page ad was placed in the San Diego Union featuring his picture of the tiny feet of a ten week old unborn baby.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.
Jeremiah 1:15

"Virginia Evers, a pro-life activist participated in the first annual March for Life in San Diego, CA.  Seeing the picture the tiny feet of a ten week old unborn baby in the San Diego Union overwhelmed her and forever changed her life.  By 1978 the impression of the tiny feet of the ten-week-old unborn baby germinated into a pro-life symbol.  Virginia designed a lapel pin the exact size and shape of an unborn baby’s feet at ten weeks after conception.  In 1979 the Precious Feet were designated as the "International Pro-Life Symbol" at a world-wide symposium in Dublin, Ireland.  Over 12 million Precious Feet have been distributed in thirty countries and six continents."

Consider keeping a supply of these lapel pins in your church. These powerfully understated pins can be worn and given out by Christians in a silent, yet clear, stand for life.
